Tuyo’s 2021 program will be held in Puerto Rico, and teams will produce a series of in-depth multimedia stories, to be co-published in local as well as international outlets. Apply now.

The cornerstone of Tuyo’s work is an annual bootcamp—equal parts masterclass, reporting center, and network incubator.

We convene reporters, filmmakers, media entrepreneurs, editors, and other nonfiction storytellers from the Global South and North for 9 days of intensive workshops and on-the-ground reporting. Talented early career storytellers are paired one-to-one with veteran reporters for mentorship and in-depth reporting.

Tuyo understands that careers depend on relationships as much as on skills.

Our bootcamp is designed as an immersive, creative space to foster personal bonds and professional networks. We work in a highly competitive field, divided in silos, often in dangerous conditions. Tuyo’s camp is a rare opportunity to step out of our daily routines, to collaborate across borders, rather than compete. We believe that the plight of the local reporter in East LA is akin to the social media storyteller in Brazil. We face similar challenges and share common missions, but have few spaces to connect across our divides. Tuyo’s camp is a laboratory to share strategies, brainstorm new projects, and produce groundbreaking reporting with colleagues.

Tuyo’s program is for exceptional early career storytellers from undercovered regions and communities.

We recognise that there is an emerging talent pool that can provide the local nuance, solutions, and perspective media desperately needs, but just lack the connections and resources to be the ones to tell the stories. Tuyo provides a bridge into the industry and a structure for them to thrive by connecting them to larger platforms, gatekeepers, and each other.
