About
Us
Tuyo is a journalism school, fellowship, and mentorship program dedicated to furthering a more diverse vision of the journalistic profession.
Tuyo Media exists to build a more equitable, interconnected, and global generation of journalists. Our mission is to bring forward the voices of [regional] storytellers and communities whose perspectives are underrepresented in media narratives. We use mentorship, capacity building and collaborative reporting to expand access and networks, across borders.
Tuyo was established in 2018 from the vision of a diverse group of journalists, including Noah Friedman-Rudovsky, George Sanchez, Steffie Kinglake and more.
Entrepreneurship framework
Building media leaders and stronger networks through:
Capacity Building
Tuyo holds an annual bootcamp with workshops and masterclasses in investigative reporting, video editing, podcasting, photojournalism and other media, as well as soft skills like job interview prep, pitching, emailing editors, security and self-care.
Mentorship
Tuyo pairs exceptional, emerging journalists with passionate, award-winning reporters for 6 months of sustained mentorship, cemented by 9 days working intensively together at our bootcamp.
In-depth, collaborative Reporting
Tuyo’s reporting teams produce a series of groundbreaking stories from underserved regions, combining the voice and perspective of local, place-based reporters with the expertise of seasoned reporters.
Tuyo’s long-term value lies in the unique international network it spawns.
We choose aspiring minds and passionate media insiders; take them out of their silos; and put them together in teams that reach across the geographic and cultural borders that divide us. This approach is just as vital for those in media centers, whose bubbles hinder their reporting, as those on its margins.
